Ovis XXI is a company that developed and administrates a network that integrates farmers, technicians, studs, and industries related to sheep production. The network based on collaboration is organized at a South American level currently working in Argentina, Chile and Uruguay. Each member is an independent company, associated with the network through a collaborative scheme based on trust.
The Ovis XXI working system is based on a holistic approach, starting from farm level through the whole value chain. It provides services and products with a high degree of innovation for sheep farming systems under quality assurance standards.
In 2004 MPM Sudamerica, MPM Australia and Ovis XXI developed the Protocols and Quality Assurance System for the introduction of MPM (Multipurpose Merino) genetics in South America. The Ovis XXI technical assistance evolved into stud development, training and accrediting of sheep classers and client executives. Ovis XXI is linked to the MPM® Breeding Group in Australia.
Ovis XXI has developed a Quality Assurance and Branding System to identify products that originate from properties that apply Sustainable Practices. Launched in 2008 the Ovis XXI Sustainable Brand requires properties to comply with three protocols: Flock Improvement, Advanced Wool Classing and Sustainable Production.
The Ovis XXI network has developed a brand for the superior wool fiber produced by its members. Ultimate Merino® identifies fibers that are cylindrical, of low scale height, highly aligned and of exquisite softness, ideally suited for base layers and other garments used in contact with the skin. Since 2009, Ultimate Merino® only acquires fiber from properties that accredit the Ovis XXI Sustainable Brand.
